State legislative issues

IAPA campaigned to add a PA to the Indiana Medicaid Advisory Panel. This legislation became law July 1. Jason Kolkmeier, PA-C, Shelbyville, IN was appointed to represent PAs. IAPA is working closely with Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) to include PAs as billing providers for Medicaid patients under their own identification numbers.Last session, IAPA had another successful legislation session. The following information is a summary of activities, please refer to the Indiana PA Practice Act and Indiana Code for complete information.

HB 1077: Clean-up language in the PA statute to complete change to collaboration over supervision for the description of the PA-Physician relationship.

HB 1392: Allows for PAs and Nurse Practitioners to sign death certificates starting January 1.

SB 21: Allows for out-of-state PA prescriptions to be honored by pharmacists in Indiana.

If you have additional advocacy needs/concerns, please contact IAPA. the legislative agenda for the upcoming session will be set in July. It requires months of preparation and there is a limit to the number of bills legislators can file. IAPA is not able to add additional advocacy concerns once the session begins. Please notify us of the issues affecting your practice as soon as possible.
