STATE LEGISLATIVE ISSUES

IAPA campaigned to add a PA to the Indiana Medicaid Advisory Panel. This legislation became law July 1. Jason Kolkmeier, PA-C, Shelbyville, IN was appointed to represent PAs. IAPA is working closely with Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) to include PAs as billing providers for Medicaid patients under their own identification numbers.

Last session, IAPA had another successful legislation session. The following issues become law on July, 1 2016. Please refer to the Indiana PA Practice Act and Indiana Code for complete information. The following Information is a summary.
HB 1272: Removes language requiring the name of each drug or drug classification must be included in a Supervisory Agreement (This was also passed during prior session but 1272 cleaned up this language by removing it from every portion of the practice act)
HB 1263: Telemedicine/Prescriptive Regulation.  Includes PAs as well as other providers.  This legislation requires rules established through IPLA.  IAPA is monitoring.
SB 174: Increases the punishment of healthcare providers prescribing controlled substances if controlled substances causes death
SB 206: Adds IAPA appointee to the Medicaid Advisory Committee

If you have additional advocacy needs/concerns.  Please contact IAPA. The legislative agenda for the upcoming session will be set in July. It requires months of preparation and there is a limit to the number of bills legislators can file. IAPA is not able to add additional advocacy concerns once the session begins. Please notify us of issues affecting your practice as soon as possible.
